Sidereal Zodiac Sun Signs

Sidereal Zodiac Sun Signs

With dates based on the midpoint between the constellations, these are the Sun Signs according to the version of the Sidereal Zodiac promoted by Witchcrafts Artisan Alchemy. These signs are named according to the thirteen constellations which cross the ecliptic (the apparent path of the sun through the sky as the earth revolves around it, the projection of the plane of the earth's orbit out into the sky):

Aries (Apr 21 - May 12)
Taurus (May 13 - Jun 19)
Gemini (Jun 20 - Jul 16)
Cancer (Jul 17 - Aug 6)
Leo (Aug 7 - Sep 14)
Virgo (Sep 15 - Nov 3)
Libra (Nov 4 - Nov 22)
*Scorpio (Nov 23 - Dec 6)
*Ophiuchus (Dec 7 - Dec 18)
Sagittarius (Dec 19 - Jan 19)
Capricorn (Jan 20 - Feb 13)
Aquarius (Feb 14 - Mar 9)
Pisces (Mar 10 - Apr 20)

*Some systems combine these two constellations into the single sign of Scorpio, to maintain a system of 12 classic zodiac  signs as opposed to working with a system of 13 zodiac signs (where the constellations of Scorpio and Ophiuchus are distinguished into separate zodiac signs). For interpretive purposes, I work with 13 zodiac signs divided in correlation with the 13 constellations. Please note, the zodiac signs are units of measurements (not the constellations themselves). In the Sidereal Zodiac, these units of measurements roughly align with the constellations as each one crosses the ecliptic. In the Tropical Zodiac, while there was a rough alignment of the zodiac signs with the constellations for which they were named around 285-290 AD, in modern times, this is no longer the case.

Note: Scorpio takes up about 7 degrees of arc, while Ophiuchus takes up about 17.75 degrees of arc, so why the ancients (when developing the Tropical Zodiac) chose to name the eighth sign Scorpio instead of Ophiuchus is a mystery.
