Clan Woden, Ingvi Tribe, Totem Rune Ing

My paternal genetic fatherline is an Old European lineage from the North Sea areas of Jutland and the German Bight, with ancient extension into southern Sweden and Fennoscandia (by DNA analysis and population genetics). The German Bight contains the Frisian and Danish Islands. The area also includes Doggerland before it became submerged under the North Sea. Further back in time (when I2 was still part of the IJ superhaplogroup), both my genetic fatherline (I2/IJ) and my genetic U5 motherline were found in the Danube [Aurignacian] culture (origin of the world's earliest known script). So, beginning from the time of the post-LGM (last glacial maximum) population expansion, the currently known migration path of my genetic fathers from the Danube to the British Isles is:

Danube Culture -> Northwestern Europe -> Greater Doggerland -> North Sea Jutland -> British Isles

Based on my Dad's current known Y-line DNA genetic markers, my Dad is in haplogroup I-M223 cont1 group1 (subclade I-Z166, subbranch I-S20905), a deme which corresponds to Jutland (continental portion of Denmark and the northern portion of Germany), homeland of Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Frisians. These clans are collectively called the Ingvaeones (People of Ingvi, also spelled Yngvi).

Dad's I-Z166 Y-DNA subclade of I-M223 is found in Staffordshire England, part of the old Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia, which for a time was also part of Danelaw (Danish Viking area). Staffordshire is itself associated with the Staffordshire hoard (discovered in 2009), the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork ever found.

"Mercia's exact evolution at the start of the Anglo-Saxon era remains more obscure than that of Northumbria, Kent, or even Wessex. Archaeological surveys show that Angles settled the lands north of the River Thames by the 6th century. The name "Mercia" is Old English for "boundary folk" (see Welsh Marches), and the traditional interpretation is that the kingdom originated along the frontier between the native Welsh and the Anglo-Saxon invaders. While its earliest boundaries will never be known, there is general agreement that the territory that was called "the first of the Mercians" in the Tribal Hidage covered much of south Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Staffordshire and northern Warwickshire. The earliest person named in any records as a king of Mercia is Creoda, said to have been the great-grandson of Icel."

Icel is the founding leader of the Angles (a tribe of the Ingvaones) and is recorded in ancestral tradition to be descended from Woden. Dad's I-Z166 Y-line subclade of I-M223 is a descendant lineage of Icel's clan, Clan Woden, also known as the Iclingas.

"The Iclingas (also Iclings or House of Icel) were a dynasty of Kings of Mercia during the 7th and 8th centuries, named for Icel (also Icil), great-grandson of Offa of Angel, a legendary or semi-legendary migration age figure who was in is made to descend from Woden by the Anglo-Saxon royal genealogies. Icel's ancestry in genealogical tradition is as follows: Icel son of Eomer son of Angeltheow son of Offa son of Wermund son of Wihtlæg son, grandson or great-grandson of Woden. In this tradition, Icel is the leader of the Angles who migrated to Britain."

Thus, Dad's I-L166 Y-line subclade of I-M223 is Clan Woden within the Ingvaeonic Tribe of Freyr (also called Yngvi and Ingvi who is associated with the Old English rune Ing). Therefore, my paternal genetic fatherline comes from Clan Woden within the Ingvi Tribe (the Ingvaeones) and my paternal line totem rune is Ing.

I think it's interesting that I've so far discovered that my dad's I-L166 Y-line subclade is from Clan Woden (the Angles) within the Great Tribe of the Ingvaeones (Angles, Saxon, Jutes and Frisians) and that this clanic-tribal relationship can easily be correlated to my experience of continuing remembering memory from even before my own physical conception. In the tradition of my ancestors, Woden is associated with evolved Wode Consciousness, while Freyr-Yngvi (lord of the Ingvaeones) is associated with creation and fertility (conception, abundance and wealth) - taking all of this together suggests to me that the ability to experience wode consciousness even within the context of actual fertilization, conception and natal development is part of a genetic inheritance I received from my ancestors.

The totemic Ing rune (and its esoteric meaning) of my Anglo-Saxon-Jute-Frisian ancestral paternal tribe (the Ingvaeones) also perfectly describes my experience of cosmic consciousness when I was 5 or 6 years old, where my awareness first "collapsed" into myself, then turning inside out, burst outward into cosmic awareness. The Anglo-Saxon form of the Ing rune more aptly describes my experience of reality than does the 'diamond' or 'square' shaped form of it. Interestingly, the Ing rune is not found in the Younger Futhark (the Scandinavian runes). This suggests to me, a greater link of my Anglo-Saxon-Jute-Frisian ancestors with the consciousness of the old European proto-Germanic Elder Futhark than with the later Scandinavian Younger Futhark. Indeed, the absence of the rune Ing (in any form) among the runes of the Younger Futhark of Scandinavia suggests to me an experiential unfamiliarity with the action of consciousness symbolized by the rune Ing among the developers and users of the Younger Futhark. Taking all of this together, it may be that the Elder Futhark is Vanir and a product of proto-Germanic paleolithic Europeans and/or that the Younger Futhark was an attempt to excise the power of the Vanir god Ingvi (Freyr) from esoteric tradition, thereby breaking the treaty between the Aesir and Vanir. These data also support the idea that the Anglo-Saxon runes were clearly developed by the Ingvaeones (the Northern Germanic Federation of Jutland-Frisia) rather than in Scandinavia (as were the Younger Futhark runes). The Elder Futhark is proto-Germanic (based in Old European tradition extending far back into time, even perhaps to the days of Doggerland and even may have evolved from the world's first graphical script when my people lived as part of the Danube River Valley Civilization). The Anglo-Saxon Futhark maintains, further expands and develops an ancient unified Vanir-Aesir tradition. The Younger Futhark of Scandinavia reduces it - corresponding to the reduction of phonetic sounds characteristic of Old Norse (in contradistinction to proto-Norse). The sound of Ing disappeared as proto-Norse changed into Old Norse.  The old world Northern Germanic Federation of Jutland-Frisia esteemed the sound Ing - and the name of the country they established in the western isles - England (Ingland) - honored it and unified the people around it.

I've described my experience of Ing in a poem I wrote around 20 years ago called Epiphany.
