Oldest evidence of writing found in Europe - The old Europe 5500-5300 BC
This news is exciting to me - my ancestral genetic motherline and fatherline are part of the ancient populations archeologist Marija Gimbutas called "Old Europe" with genetic roots reaching into the ancient Danube River Valley Civilization (with scientifically proven genetic links to ancient populations inhabiting the regions that that are now called Slovakia, Hungary and Romania). My U motherline is thought by scientists to have crossed the Caucasus Mountains of southern Russia in very early prehistory (during very ancient early modern human migrations from Africa and the Near East) and moved into European areas near the Black Sea -> from where U's U5 descendants headed north toward Scandinavia after Ice Age glaciers melted in that part of Europe (and when some of the ancient Danube River Valley Civilization became submerged under the Black Sea).
Old Europe: The Danube Valley Civilization 5000-3500 BC - The European Cradle
It never ceases to amaze me how elegantly beautiful "wyrd" works and how intimately the soul and the living earth are intertwined - shorlty after I created my Mirkwood Nordic Lights candle, I discovered my "Old Europe" genetic ancestral connection to the ancient Danube River Valley Civilization where the first writing originated. (The Danube River Valley Civilization is the European cradle of civilization which predates Mesopotamian civilization.) Interestingly, Mirkwood means "Black Forest". The source origin of the Danube River is in the Black Forest (Mirkwood) in southwestern Germany. Hail the Ancestors who guide me! Mirkwood is not at all dark or gloomy to me (as it may be to Tolkien and to others who speculate on the etymology of the word "Mirkwood") - on the contrary, it is in reality and in my soul an "area of immense natural beauty" and sweet illumination. I am a child of Mirkwood.
Mysteries of the Black Sea Atlantis - The Hidden Knowledge
This ancient Mesolithic "pre-Celtic" people may be the common source for the Celto-Germanic people (both the Celtic and Germanic people before they separated into distinct yet definately related groups) ... "Pre-Celtic peoples first appeared in the Danube Valley around 7,000 years ago (in timely congruence with being part of the Great Danube River Valley Civilization). Flooded out of the area which is now the Black Sea, they followed the Danube river and it's tributaries, all the way to its source (in the Black Forest of Germany). Over the next 5,000 years, they gradually evolved the culture which we recognize as Celtic (and Germanic)."
For those of us involved in ancestral witchcraft, this is an important find ... "A team of scientists says hominids lived in Europe as recently as 7 million years ago, based on a discovery in Bulgaria. The find lends credence to the idea that part of modern human evolution occurred outside of Africa."
This group of archaic humans may be where my own "Western European Denosivan DNA" came from (and I have more Denisovan DNA (2.3%) than I do Neanderthal DNA (1.9%). It is unknown whether my Neanderthal genetic contribution came from European or Levantine Neanderthals, and since classical pure Siberian to Southeast Asian Denisovan DNA has not yet been found in Europe, this means that some of my direct genetic ancestors (namely, this new unknown Western European Denisovan-related hominid) have lived in Europe for at least 400,000 years. My genetic roots in Europe run deep, very deep.
"The oldest known human DNA found yet reveals human evolution was even more confusing than thought, researchers say.
The DNA, which dates back some 400,000 years, may belong to an unknown human ancestor, say scientists. These new findings could shed light on a mysterious extinct branch of humanity known as Denisovans, who were close relatives of Neanderthals, scientists added.
"This is the oldest human genetic material that has been sequenced so far," said study lead author Matthias Meyer, a molecular biologist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. "This is really a breakthrough — we'd never have thought it possible two years ago that we could study the genetics of human fossils of this age." Until now, the previous oldest human DNA known came from a 100,000-year-old Neanderthal from a cave in Belgium.
The researchers reconstructed a nearly complete genome of this fossil's mitochondria — the powerhouses of the cell, which possess their own DNA and get passed down from the mother. The fossils unearthed at the site resembled Neanderthals, so researchers expected this mitochondrial DNA to be Neanderthal.
Surprisingly, the mitochondrial DNA reveals this fossil shared a common ancestor not with Neanderthals, but with Denisovans, splitting from them about 700,000 years ago. This is odd, since research currently suggests the Denisovans lived in eastern Asia, not in western Europe, where this fossil was uncovered. The only known Denisovan fossils so far are a finger bone and a molar found in Siberia."
While it is known that all modern humans whose ancestors left Africa are a genetic mixture of early Homo sapiens and Neanderthals, it is NOT similarly true that all modern humans whose ancestors left Africa also have Denisovan genetic admixture. From having my own DNA analyzed by scientists, I know that I have genetic admixture from early Homo sapien, Neanderthal and Denisovan humankinds, so it seems very likely that I also carry some DNA from this fourth (as-yet unidentified) archaic hominin (who interbred with Denisovans) as well (ancestry testing labs don't currently look for genetic admixture from this unidentified human species yet when doing genetic testing).
"Interbreeding occurred among members of multiple ancient human-like groups in Europe and Asia more than 30,000 years ago ... Neanderthal and Denisovan’s are believed to have bred with anatomically modern humans, thus contributing to the genetic diversity of many people today. That being said, this new discovery suggests that our genetic diversity is far more complex, and again, includes a being (or beings) that has yet to be identified... The best explanation is that the Denisovans interbred with an unidentified species, and picked up some of their DNA. Denisovans harbour ancestry from an unknown archaic population, unrelated to Neanderthals."
"It seems that your Neanderthal ancestors may not be as far back in your tree as you thought. They have now found 40,000 year old skeletal remains that suggest that person’s great-great-grandfather was in fact, full Neanderthal. That’s significantly later than previously thought, by 10,000 or 20,000 years, and in Europe, not the Near East…and who knows what is just waiting to be found."
My most recent ethnic roots are English, Irish and German. This article discusses the origins of my English ethnicity (through the Angles, Saxons and Jutes) as being the same as the origin of my Celto-Germanic-Nordic roots - in the Danube River Valley Civilization (the real cradle of civilization) sourced in the Black Forest of Germany.
"With melting perma-ice the seas rose for centuries after the Ice Age ended, and eventually inundated what now looks to have been a high Neolithic culture existing in the Mesolithic Age, around the Black Sea basin, then several hundred feet below existing sea level. Essentially settlements around a small inland lake.
Evidence points to the dispersal of that culture after the very sudden flooding of the Black Sea basin (after the breaching of the Dardanelles) by rising Mediterranean Sea levels, over six thousand years ago.
The refugees, those fleeing the Flood, possibly crossed the populated Middle East and went into the Mesopotamian basin, crossed the populated Ukraine and entered Western Europe and the North Sea, and fanned out beyond the populated Macedonian peninsula to the islands of Crete and Malta and the Nile delta, and so caused the sudden co-incident appearance of advanced Neolithic cultures where there had been none. If the Black Sea flood was indeed Noah's flood of the Christian Bible fame, and all of the displaced tribes had to travel far, in all directions, to find new homes for themselves, it would go far to explain the many similar origin stories amongst the Nordic / Germanic Pictish and Germanic Engles and Saxons. As well as the sudden arrival of similarly advanced Neolithic cultures in so many of the archaeological records of Europe and the Middle East over six thousand years ago. That makes the English a very old people indeed. And the big shock of truth for the Pictish Scots and many of the Welsh and the English is that they share a common heritage. They are all ultimately of Germanic and Scythian origin."
